Stuart Middleton’s I am just going outside, I may be some time, 2016, provokes the question whether animation is a tool to depict fictional narratives or it desires a simulation per se, liberating inner dark fantasies. We observe a faceless puppet -situated between a rusty worn man and a prematurely aged boy- performing various solitary activities as in search of a metamorphosis, wandering across a supermarket, a forest, returning to a domestic space. His performance is a dual act that is entangled with its creator becoming menace and target, perpetrator and victim and we are left pondering if the threat is one coming from within or the outside.
