MOMA PS1 GALA OPENING
THEATER OF OPERATIONS
THE GULF WARS 1991 - 2011
During the very turbulent times of the early 1970s, Josef Beuys created a work that reads “Dürer, I’ll guide Baader and Meinhof through Documenta V personally.” After discovering this work I was never able to forget it due to the tragic and violent background of it. When MOMA PS1 invited me to my first group exhibition, I was excited and wanted to bring my psychologist Dr. Antonelli to the Gala opening and show her my art works.
Dr. Antonelli consented to be filmed. Her strong hearing impediment requires writing and technology. I found it interesting to juxtapose the Jewish doctor’s professional experience that started during the war time in 1943 with today’s conflict prone period and the very topic of the exhibition, i.e. the Golf Wars. My parents were part of that war generation in Nazi Germany which for sure explains some of the intergenerational trauma for which I am grateful to have Dr. Antonelli as my psychologist.
Special thanks to Dr. Antonelli, Moma PS1, Peter Eleey, Ruba Katrib, Josephine Graf, Louise Lawler, Christopher Williams and everybody supporting me in my projects including Oscar Magnuson and
